COVER: LAST BIG TOUR RACE OF THE SEASON GOES AT LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY THIS WEEKEND
BITS FROM THE PITS  AUG 28/23
*More great news for the Jr. Dragster racers as John Golka the owner of KD Transmissions who is a very large sponsor on a yearly basis, has offered to pay for the JR. Dragster buy backs for the Long Weekend in Sept Race. Johnny also helps a number of racers out who without that support may not be able to get out racing. This is just a perfect example of the senior drivers doing so much for the up and coming super starts, THANK YOU JOHN.

*W.O Stinson’s who did not miss noticing the terrible increase in the cost of the PJ1 Traction compound and how it has affected the costs to the race track. W.O. Stinson’s has offered to supply Luskville Dragway with a 45 Gallon Drum of Traction Compound for the Sept Long weekend event. This also is above their very large support for the entire season. Again PLEASE when it comes to purchasing your alcohol, oils, and to lubes don’t forget what this advertiser does for your race track. Is saving $20.00 On a drum of alcohol really worth it??? IN THE LONG RUN. PLEASE SUPPORT THOSE THAT SUPPORT LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY.

*Jerome LACHANCE has been a regular figure on the Super Tour with his immaculate 67 Chevy 11, and has usually had the help of his brother Maxine. Well that will change a bit come this weekends fall Bracket Finals as the Brothers have added a Racetech Dragster to the fray and will now be a 2 car Super Pro Team. The new ride was purchased just this past weekend and will be tested on Friday with the hopes of having it ready enough for competition on Saturday and Sunday. You know this car will be a force right from the start , these guys have lo

ONE OF THE BEST STREET DAYS THIS SEASON, OUTLAW CARS SHINE: AUG 28/23
Once again mother nature, or the nature witch made our lives difficult as we headed into the Capital City Street Car Challenge. On Friday the forecast for Saturday was so bad, that we almost called the whole thing off, but after talking with Connor Wilson the current track record holder in the Outlaw Street Cars we decided to hold off until Saturday Morning to make the final call. Well good thing we did as the weather COMPLETELY CHANGED over night giving us a very good chance to get the event in. And get it in we did with a HUGE turnout of street cars from all over Ontario and Quebec. Now, no the weather was not wall to wall sunshine but it did not rain at Luskville Dragway and other tracks where not that fortunate. Out of the number of Outlaw street that came to the line in the first round there was four of them that stood out. Officially Connor Wilson current track record holder, But hard on his heels was Zack McCabe, Edger Levesque, and Joel Bernier and his ZL1 Camaro. The Chicago  Style eliminations saw Joel Bernier and Connor Wilson be the last two standing, and when Wilson's number one qualifying Corvette spit a blower belt in the final it was reaction time winner Joel Bernier being crowned as the Capital City Out Law Street Winner. A couple of things, seeing chutes blossom at Luskville Dragway once again was exciting to say the least, watching Connor and Zack run side by side in the 8's and then drop the laundry together was a picture i wish John Chambers could have got, maybe next time. The spectators seem to thoroughly enjoy the show and had lots of patience between rounds. We hope to have the boys of summer back before summer is over. So overall track record stays intact and stays with Connor Wilson for now at 8:65.

If your a lover of fast street cars then you wont want to miss this weekends Capital City Street Car Shootout Saturday August 26th. Gates will open at 8 am with the first runs going around 11 am. this event is our first shot at trying to get the new performance street cars involved as we run a pure street race as well as the outlaw stuff. Pure street means you drive it in off the street, and drive it down the track against someone in your field. This eliminations will take place AFTER the Outlaw cars as we try to keep the traction as good as we can. Want to thank the sponsors who helped make this race happen, Ottawa Drive Shaft and Steering, Ottawa Tires and Rims, and Turbo Parts Canada.

*The Nostalgia Cars returned to Luskville Dragway for the first time this season and was great top have them back. For me this takes me back to the days when I raced and everything was much more simpler, and some would say much more fun. You usually towed with a open trailer, and there was no such things as electronics. The variety of cars was also something that made it very appealing to the fans as many drove what they saw ont he track.Picture to the right is an example from this past weekend of what im talking about.
HONEYWELL WORKS WALLY WEEKEND, REPORT CARD: AUGUST 21/23
Coming off the record setting Bracket Bonanza, its hard to get hipped up for the next race which you know is not going to be anywhere as big as the long weekend in August one. But the Honeywell Works Wally Weekend seems to be just what the doctor ordered to get everyone back in the grove. Most take the week in between off, so coming back to a little less hectic weekend is a welcomed race for most. This weekend is also the Napa Auto Parts customer appreciation weekend so its also a time when many who have never seen drag racing get a chance to do just that.
Once again the weather man was not good to us, or many others who tried to run a drag race this weekend as after making a great effort and get things dried up during the day on Friday, a pop up came trough and put us back were we had started. However as is the case no one gave up and things where dried up, track was scraped and everything was ready for the 10 a.m. (11 actually) start on Saturday. With a number of other events going on it was a pleasant surprise to see a great turnout of cars for this weekends event, thank you to those that supported Luskville Dragway.
The jr. class was a little light especially coming off the big 31 cars at the Bonanza, Julia Malcolm looks like she might be a chip off the old block (Dad Derek) as she picked up another win and more points for her championship bid. Semi Pro was the Stephen Ballantyne Show once again as he met and defeated Christen Giroux in the Final. Super Pro would see François Roberge take his first win of the season as he defeated Stephen Clarmo in a door car vs. dragster final. Nostalgia was the work of Marco who met and defeated Bruce Evans in and his Chevelle, was nice to have the NOS cars back for the first time this season.
Sunday's Winners Leah Monaghan in JR, Kate Adams was Quick Draw Winner in Jrs. Bruce Evans is Nostalgia, Larry Lepine in Semi Pro and Randy Bellefeuille in Super Pro. The Bellefeuille win is quite a story and if you have been following  our web site you understand what I'm saying. Driving a borrowed car after his broke the chassis at the Bonanza, and then taking the win over Kyle Jessup in the ADM Motorsports Corvette capped a great come back. But we don't stop as this Saturday is the Capital City Outlaw Streetcar Shootout.

Look for the return of another former drag racer who packed it in in the early 2000's much like Ralph Murphy and Vince Ford, in fact this driver is from  the same area as the F&M Boys. Norm Timmerman who spend many a weekend racing at Luskville Dragway in a 32 Ford Powered Roadster will be back to get some testing in at the Honeywell Works Wally Weekend. Norms altered was a very fast and exciting car but will return to the drag racing wars with a soft tail dragster this time around. This is once again great news for the drag strip and the sport of drag racing, and reiterates the saying "once a drag racer, always a drag racer". This is the last chance of the 2023 season to win a Wally BE THERE

*With the big street car shoot out coming up on August 26th we are pleased to announce that  we have added PURE STREET to the day. This is mostly for the newer style Mustangs, Chargers, Challengers, Corvettes, Camaros, BMW, Audi's and such. Over the summer we have seen some pretty incredible runs out of cars that just drive in off the street, so we would like to show case them in a run off to declare a Pure Street Champion. These cars will run after the Outlaw Street Cars have got their racing in, lets see who has the fastest pure street, must be driven into the track. Remember everyone comes in the Tremblay Road Gate.

*Last this week, once again this year the Clarmo Auto Repair/Stable Restaurant Car show was a huge success even though it was competing with a few other shows in the area. Every 4th year this weekend like the Bracket Bonanza is almost a week late on the calendar because of leap year. Every four years the Bonanza is the same weekend as the Michigan 50,000. and it does take a few cars no matter how far away it is. Well the same this year for the show at Jamie's as there was one down the road a Winchester the same time. That being said there was a great turnout of cars and people who enjoyed the show. I got a chance to catch up with Paulo Giust and where his rebuild stands, and it is going very well in fact he will be out this fall for at least 2 races. We reported earlier that Paulo was going to go back to Pro Mod but that has changed as well as he is going to continue for now with the Radial vs The World Program and will be at the "Lights Out Race" in Valdosta, Georgia, we all wish him nothing but good luck and success.

*Well we thought it was the last thing but this just in, Dave Rennie wins big in Napierville as he beats all comers in the super pro class to win the Mav TV Day at the Montreal Track. This just keeps up the tremendous season that both Rennie's are having and could not happen to nicer people than Dave and Pam. Pam was in the winners circle for a $10,000 Grander just a week earlier and now Dave keeps the ball rolling with another big win. I can remember my Mother saying that those that give shall receive, well there is no one who does anymore for Luskville Dragway, and many of the other racers than the Rennie's, so Mom was right.
RECAP OF BONANZA, NOW THAT I HAVE HAD SOME TIME TO DIGEST EVERYTHING: AUG 14/23
The only thing I can assure you is I'm getting older for sure, this years Bracket Bonanza just about wore me out, its not just the physical part of it, but the mental part is draining as well. But that being said I think I'm not out of place in saying that things went pretty well. The weather gods where definitely on our side as the big storm missed us on Friday Night even though there was a scare when the lighting got very close. Ottawa was hit very hard and that's not far from us. The grounds are in better shape than they where after the July 1st Tour race. We got every single event in, including the dinner, the band, the quick sixteen. The fact that we had 30 Jrs. I think allows us to Call our Little Car Nationals the Canadian Little Car Nationals, and plans are already underway to make it bigger for next year, Thanks Tina and Bill, Jamie and Sherri. All comments indicated that everyone enjoyed the band, and they have already been booked for 2024, we are also looking at a second band as well and will keep you posted on that and where it would fit in during DRAG WEEK 24. So for us as it has always been once the Bonanza is over we feel like the season is fast coming to a close, and the off season is not far away. However the off season for us means work begins on the next season.

The off season silly season has started already as Lewis Gagne has purchased Cole Malcolm Krottner's Jr. Dragster for his son Logan. Logan has been a steadily improving driver since he started racing and has a win or more and many round wins under his belt. ADM Motorsports is currently on the look for a new half scale Jr. to replace Coles car for 2024. This move is quite early but with Coles hockey kicking into high gear early this summer, it means he wont be able to compete much more this summer. So the Bonanza will be his last race of the year and Logan will move into a faster car. This will give Lewis 4 cars which he plans on keeping all of them as his younger boys continue to race and move to faster ones.

*Every race has its special stories and this is just one from this years Bracket Bonanza, On Saturday Brody Bellefeuille broke a driveshaft on the Family Dragster, the damage was so severe that the car will need to go to a chassis shop. But that was not the end of the racing weekend for the Bellefeuille as to the rescue comes Francois Roberge and his spare dragster. So the engine came out of the the Bellefeuille Dragster and went into the Roberge car on Saturday Night, the car was fire up at 10:45 pm. This is what the drag racing family is all about helping each other and their is no better example of this that what went on at Luskville Dragway on Saturday.

*Roger Cormier from Northern Quebec was one of only two small incidents that took place over the weekend. Rogers car back fired on the return road and cause a carburetor fire which cause the foam under the hood to catch on fire. It was much worse looking than it actually was as far as damage goes, and he along with many friends cleaned the car up and got back into action. The other incident was a broken rear end on track which cause for a 30 minute clean up, but other than that the worse thing to happen was a broken scooter.

* This race has a thousand stories is usually the case and this year Bonanza was no different as the Bellefeuille and François Roberge wrote a story of their own on Saturday Night. Randy's car broke a driveshaft on the starting line damaging the frame rails on the digger. Francois Roberge had damage the motor in his second dragster, so yep you guessed they pooled parts and had Brody Bellefeuille back behind the wheel of a dragster for Sunday Morning.

*The last story of the Bonanza was the resetting of the record for the fastest street car. We had invited Connor Wilson to do a couple of passes to promote our Capital City Street Car challenge and Connor did not let anyone down as he laid down a incredible 8:85

42nd. ANNUAL BRACKET BONANZA BREAKS ALL KIND OF RECORDS: AUGUST 7/23
The Bracket Bonanza is a race that is known by one name, The BRACKET" when we started it 42 years ago it was a single day affair with $1000. to win. Well to say it has grown in leaps and bounds over the years would be putting it very lightly as it is now a week long deal with over $75,000 in prize money, golf tournaments, hiking, go carts and much more. At the first Bonanza we opened the gates on Sunday, now they are here all week, and many more roll in through out the week. Wednesday was CRAZY as the pits swelled to over full and race teams started to be parked down the track and into overflow, overflow. With showers called for Thursday it was up in the air what the day would bring, but it did bring some rain overnight making the first thing to do was get things dried up. Cars continued to roll through the gates on Thursday as many of the staff worked hard to get things ready to race if the weather did cooperate. And racing we did get in, but did not get it finished as we got hit by rain with a half dozen cars left which was finished off on Friday during the Friday eliminations. Dan Lanctot was the winner in Super Pro and took the Busters Big Dog Wally and $10,000. Martin Lavassigre was the winner in the Semi Pro class over Naomi Ballabey. Friday would dawn with the pits swelling to overflow, and cars parked all the way too the end of the track. The Racing was stellar and with all honesty one of the best days of racing i have seen in my 50 years of being part of this race track in one form or another. Jr. Dragsters which saw 30 cars take the green so to speak in the first round would see Buffalo New Yorks P J Marston take the win in the triple crown of Jr Drag Racing. Semi Pro would see Kevin Cardinal take up for is Father Law John Chatwood and keep the tradition of them winning races at the Bracket Bonanza in a Oldsmobile. Runner Up in Semi Pro was Mike Reynolds who was running both super pro and semi pro. Super Pro would see Phil Harvey do what he does best WIN, yes Phil has had a very good winning percentage at Luskville Dragway and that continued as he Beat Ralph Coe and his 632 cu. in West Carleton Auto engine.
SATURDAY: and perfect weather and even more race cars as by now it was virtually impossible to find anymore pit spots that were not in the next door neighbors yard. And once again the racing was like nothing Luskville Dragway has ever seen. The jrs on Saturday would run for $1000. to win and Annabelle Soucy who has not raced a lot this summer was on her game and won the race. Semi Pro would keep the ladies luck going as Chantal Grenier would win her first race and take home the $2000. that went with it, she beat Elliot Lakes very own Zac Maclean in the final. And Pam Rennie kept GIRLS DAY going as she took the win light in the finals of Super Pro and took home the $10,000. pay check that went with it. Quick Sixteen saw Mike Chenier and his "Venom" Corvette take the win and the Wally for the first ever race of this type at Luskville Dragway.
So up next was the famous steak bar-b-que, and the band high way sunrise, and none of the listed disappointed anyone.
SUNDAY: once again the sun was up early and so was Derek, Troy and Mike as the scraping process began all over again like it did every morning during the race week. Once again the traction was as good as what anyone had ever raced on and it showed with the incredible rounds and rounds of racing. The only on track mishap would come on Sunday during eliminations when Mickey Renaud blew a rear end and laid down some rear-end oil. But once again under the guidance of Derek track was back to 100% in less the 30 minutes and it was back to racing with out missing a beat. Jr. Dragsters would see Julia Malcolm win the Brian Ackers Quick Draw Award making both of my grandkids recipients of this award at the Bonanza. Julia would go on to meet Florence Laflamme in the finals where Florence would take the win. Semi Pro would be Mike Reynolds dominated as he would meet many time winner Fred MacDonald in the finals and take the win light. Super Pro was once again a huge 100 car field with the finals boiling down to Lewis Gagne and Adam Bitzanis with Gagne going .001 for the win to back up his win from one year ago Bonanza.
So what does one say, record turnout, 100 Super Pro, 30 Jrs. 87 Semi Pro, other than a little bad weather on Thursday and the treat of some on Friday we where extremely lucky weather wise. So yes DRAG WEEK was a success, and now the work begins to get everything lined up for next summer and the 4th annual Drag Week and the 43 annual Bracket Bonanza.
