BITS FROM THE PITS  JULY 31/23

*
One weekend down, drag week starts and then the Bonanza, get in, sit down, buckle up and get ready for the ride. Monday see's us with a off day to regroup and stock back up so to speak, Tuesday sees the Mountain Hike to Luskville Falls, followed by the annual Texas Holden Poker Tournament Tuesday Night. Wednesday is the annual golf tournament and go cart racing for those that don't golf. and Then Thursday all hell breaks loose with the first of 4 $10,000. events.

 * The Awards banquet may seem like it is a long ways down the road but it will be uponcid:image001.jpg@01D5B408.8E4D0D10 us fast, so we are posting the link and phone number too the room block that we have secured for our event. If you call tell them you are part of the ADM room block and you get the lower price for rooms. You can call 613-288-9001.

*The one thing I have learned that there is always room for a surprise and this weekend was no different as Ralph Murphy and Vince Ford made their return to Luskville Dragway after being away for many years. The duo from Prescott, Ontario where a main stay back in the 80's when we took over Luskville Dragway. They bought what was back then a very trick dragster. But then life took over and the boys stepped away from Drag Racing. Ralph got very involved with Dirt Track Racing with his daughter actually doing some driving for a few years. So when the boys called to say they where pulling the digger out of moth balls and heading back to the track. So on Sunday July 30 the boys made their return and where welcomed by all.

DAVE RENNIE AUTOCARE KICKS OFF DRAG WEEK WITH A BANG: JULY 31/23
Ok so this is only the 3rd year of the Dave Rennie Auto Care Twin Tens, which use to be only $5000 to win, so everyone was wondering what would it be like. Last year saw many come and stay over for the big go and no one really knew what it would be like. or just how big the 3rd year would be. Cars started showing up as early as Thursday with even some spectator campers in that group. Friday would be the tell tale, and the tale was we where in for a HUGE turnout of cars, as by 9 pm Friday night we where well on our way to 60 super pro with more to come. Now the day was not with out its bumps in the road as the weather man did not spare us any of the bad weather as the track was hit twice during the day. The second one came at 10 pm at night and it was heavy. So everyone just put things to bed and got ready for what would be a long day on Saturday. So once again the weather man could not have been any more wrong than he was, after calling for a small amount of showers on Friday, WRONG, and then wall to wall sunshine on Saturday WRONG, all i can say is I'm glad there not doctors. Anyhow, we did get it done, ALL OF IT, and it was some very special racing to say the least. Jr Dragsters would see Shelbie Parker take the win over Julia Malcolm who padded here points lead once again with a live run to the finals. Congrats went to Lila Monohgan as she would pick up the extra $50 bucks for the Brian Ackers Quick Draw Award. Semi Pro would see Stephen Ballantyne take home the win over upstart Michael Harling out of Sudbury. Super Pro would see Andrew Strick mow his way through a very stout Door Car Field and head  into the Semi Finals of the combined dragster/door cars. Jay Beaulieu who was having a great day would take Andrew Out in the Semis then do the Same to Jean Harvey in the Finals. Dave Rennie would beat Mike Chenier for the Door Car Challenge win. So back to the drawing board for tomorrow with another full day of racing.
With out question the skies where clear come Sunday morning, but boy was it cold for this time of year, many commented that they had to have their furnace on in the motorhomes to take the chill off.
But as the morning war on the Sun and the temperatures probably made for one of the nicest days of the summer so far, and this made for some incredible racing. Jr. Dragsters would see Lea Monaghan return to the winners circle for the fist time in a while and would also see her pick up the Brian Ackers Quick Draw Award for the best reaction time. Semi Pro would also see a different winner as James Hewitt would take the win. It would however see the same runner up as Saturday as rookie Michael Harling would once again make his way to the final. Super Pro was quite a story as Sebastian Levesque would début his brand new American Dragster and take it to the finals on Sunday against Max Gauthier and his little Vega. Gauthier's win was quite a story as he was late getting out this season, then did a major wheel stand on his first pass, sending the car to Ogilvie Auto and Fleet for some major work. But it all paid off as he put the little grey Vega in the winners circle on its first return to Luskville Dragway. Racing was followed by Beer and Burgs and plenty of bench racing, and now drag week starts.

As everyone knows or should know as I have been complaining enough about it lately, the cost of traction compound has gone through the roof since Covid. It has gone up over $1000.00 a barrel. This means that every time we spray a lane in race day prep it cost us close to $500. And we can no longer spend 8.00 to make a Hamburg and sell it for $5.00. So, starting today, one lane will be sprayed in race day prep and will be used for 3 hours for slicks only, the other lane will be used for cars with street tires. The cost for those that use the street lane will stay the same as before, $40. For street cars, $50. For drag cars and $10. For crew. We will offer a fully prepped lane sprayed to the 1/8-mile, cost will be $100. Car, Driver and crew (minimum 5 cars). In 2022 the manufacture created a shortage of the product which caused many of us race tracks to panic in getting compound and was willing to pay whatever it took to get some, looks like they caught on! I would suggest before anyone comments on this, that they check what other tracks are doing and charging, and if anyone wants to discuss this in any manner I’m always available.

* It was good to see Ralph Coe and Rob Sugrue out testing this past Saturday as they both return to the drag racing wars after some down time. Ralph was out with the "Color Me Gone" Dodge that is prepared by Vern Hinton at West Carleton Automotive. Ralph is also the owner of Trillium Pave mark and will be in early next week to get the track looking good again with his painting.  Sugrue had his Mid Mountain Ford Mustang out after a complete rebuild and was smiling ear to ear, in fact he was so pleased says he will probably run super pro and semi pro at the Bracket Bonanza.

* Big congratulations to Dave and Pam Rennie who represented Luskville Dragway very well at the Naipreville National Open taken runner up spots in Super Pro both Saturday and Sunday. Dave went to the final against Serge Marineau on Saturday with Marineau's Dragster coming out on top. Sunday saw Pam get her dragster in the finals against Danny Lanctot's beautiful Vette Roadster. Pam was hoping for her first big win but will have to wait another week as Lanctot came out on top. Next stop for the Rennies is the Dave Rennie Auto Care Twin Tens this weekend.

The Race is our National Event of the year and attracts racers from all over the country and the USA. *Some sad news to end this weeks Bits from the Pits as we have lost another one of our family members. Karen Dennique passed away on Friday of this past week, Karen is the mother of Chris Dennique and the wife of Long time Luskville Dragway drag racer Gerald Dennique. If you knew Karen at all, you knew she was a character, who was always ready to make you laugh. Karen and Gerald and now their son Chris have and are a BIG part of Luskville Dragway. I know the racing community will be miss Karen dearly.

NAPA AUTO PARTS CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT OF LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY IN 2023: JULY 17/23
Canada's leading Auto Parts Supply company Napa Auto Parts, will once again hold the title rights too Luskville Dragway, Presenter Rights to the tracks Points Series, And the Bracket Bonanza 2023 . This is as about as good as it gets at this point in the season,  to being informed by Napa's Derek Lee that Napa is back on board. We are closing in on 16 years of Napa involvement with us, and there are many people to thank for this. There is no question that advertisers play a major role in Luskville Dragway's success, its improvements, and its future, and one never knows heading into the off season where we will stand come the next year.  For 2023 we will stand tall with the Napa Logo on the tower lane scoreboard, as well as brand names on many of our races and series. As we have for the past 16 years Napa along with Luskville Dragway will present a customer appreciation day at the track August 18-19-20. Tickets for  free spectator admission will be made available at all Napa Auto Parts Stores, Napa Auto Pro Service Centers and Napa Auto Care shops. Customers will be allowed to bring a car load of friends and family for a day at the races (or two days should they wish) compliments of Napa Auto Parts. Again I want to thank all of those involved and they know who they are, and especially Derek Lee of Napa Auto Parts who has been a strong supporter. I can not tell you how big this is for Luskville Dragway, with all the improvement's that have been done, and more to come, it is pretty clear that people are being told of what is going on at Luskville Dragway THANK YOU.

BRAGGING RIGHTS NIGHTS RESULTS, JULY 17/23
The weatherman cooperated for a change, and we got all the Bragging Rights Nights race in and set some new records along the way. This was a return of sorts of the Outlaw street racing cars that where a big part of the track pre covid days. Back then it was some great racing and this weekend proved that we can do that again. Connor Wilson was the fast car of the day with his record setting 9.31 at only 140 (meaning he can and will go a lot faster). Connor was also the Street Shootout Winner as well as he met and Defeated Nich Van Riemsdyk in the Finals, Nich put up a good fight running in the nines as well. Nich and Rob Pond where a big part of the Outlaw Street Scene pre covid. Mike Wieczorek did a number on the street bike record as well as he went 9.67 @ 152. Simon Scollom was the Import fastest ET with a 10.04, fastest mustang was Chris Cline with a 12.46 and the fastest Truck went to Mike Dawe with a 11.47, none of these numbers where new records but where class winners for the day. With things going as good as they did the plans are to have two more before the season is over, August 26, and Sept 17 which will be part of the BOTV Cruise Night weekend.

With all the rain last week, and many LARGE motorhomes you can only imagine the repair work that is and has to be done to get us back to where we like. Most was caused by the weather, but there was some that was very unnecessary . We understand that the evolution of our sport has also hit the tow vehicles as well, as back in the day when I started racing it was a pick up truck and open trailer, now there seems to be a competition to see who can get the biggest motorhome, and quite honestly our track and most others where not built with that in mind. Not blaming anyone but it is very evident that if you have a motorhome and especially a big motorhome you are going to have to have a run way like many have. The motorhome in drag racing has had a major impact on the revenue of the track as far as food and beverage sales go, and that too is going to have to change.

*The   original winner of the first ever Big Dog Shootout, Ralph Coe will return to the drag racing wars at this years Busters Big Dog Shootout. Ralph who is the owner of Trillium Pave Mark will also be sprucing Luskville Dragway up as well with a new coat of paint. 14 years ago, yes 2009, when Ralph won the first ever race a door car winning a big dollar race was few and far between. We have come along way since those days, just look at the Super Pro winners at this past Canada Day weekend, TWO DOOR CARS. Over the last 14 years we have done as much as we could to make running a door car a thing to do, and the winning will keep going on for sure, but don't take the dragsters for granite or it will bite you.

*Another weekend under our belts and once again our cruise night was not like they use to be, so we continue to work on things to get cars back to the track and enjoy all the improvements that we have done. This Saturday should be fun as we present the first ever Bragging Rights Night, and record runs for Luskville Dragway. We have last years list and hope to add and improve on that. Some potential new record holders and some current where at the track this past Saturday Night checking things out. A couple of corvettes that laid down some good numbers and will be interesting to see if Connor Wilson can retain his fastest Chevy Record Title. Gates open at 2 pm, testing and record runs between 3-6, Cruise Night between 6-10, this should be fun.

*Work does not stop at Luskville as this past week saw a lot of emphasis on drainage and repairing the damage that was done from the Super Tour weekend. The land at Luskville Dragway is great when its dry as the clay becomes like concrete, but when its wet it is not so nice. More work will take place this week, and I have to be honest its happening in a year where things have not gone well. However work will continue, Jason Hines Contracting will begin Monday to do some major repairs and will also put in a cut off road from the turn off directly out to the new entrance way, so we will be able to use some more property for parking. We are also installing a new guard rail along the return road which will gives us a secondary safety barrier, and should finally keep people off the grass, "LOL".  We will not have time to get it done completely before Bonanza but have a good start right now. Finally let me say this, There is no way I can ever thank the advertisers, sponsors, with out them we would not be in the place we are right now, this is not a sales pitch this is the honest truth, THANK YOU.

*This just in, look for a new Jr. Dragster racer at this years Bracket Bonanza, car will be based out of Sudbury but is very well known to this area and has been in the winners circle with me. ???
GIRLS ROCK WAS THE UNDERSTATEMENT ON CANADA DAY WEEKEND: JULY 10/23
I have been around this sport for a very long time "I'm feeling it too" and have watched the evolution of our sport in many different ways. None has been more prevalent than the addition of females in our sport and more importantly females who kick ass. This was loud and clear on the Canada Day weekend when the top 3 spots in Super Pro over the two day event was taken by a female super pro racer. Yes things started off when Laura Shepard met and defeated Ashley Ogilvie in the Saturday Super Pro Final. Both of these ladies beat up on a number of great Male Super Pro Drivers along the way to the finals, where Ashley would go red. These two young ladies are both second generation drag racers and both drove Jrs. when they started racing. Ashley was track champion in the Jrs two years in a row. Laura did not drive a Jrs. for long but did get her feet wet in that class. The other thing these two winners have in common is they are both second generation drag racers. The third lady we are talking about is also a second generation drag racer, as Becky Ray as followed in her Dads foot steps and become a drag racer. Her father Al still races to this day and was one of the original Mohawk Dragway racers back in the 60's. These are only two of the many Ladies who compete and compete to win each and every weekend, and if you look at our Jr. Dragster ranks these days there looks to be a lot more ladies down the road. Yes this is not to say there where not a few ladies back in the day, Helen Desjardin, Sandy Sproule, Lori Johnson, but nothing like it is today, and I firmly believe it is going to get a lot tougher for the boys in the days and years ahead. Two years ago, it was all ladies who won the rookie  of the year awards at Luskville Dragway's season ending awards banquet, and there are more on the horizon.

The first batch of Wally's just came off the assembly line and are ready to be presented at the Dave Rennie Autocare Twin Tens weekend, and the kick off to "Drag Week" 23. Winners on both Saturday and Sunday in Super Pro, Jrs. and Semi Pro will take home one of these beauties thanks to Dave & Pam Rennie. The Wally is a very sot after award and although some have a number of them MANY do not have even one and for them winning one of these is just that much more important. The race will be held the weekend before the August long weekend, and kicks off a week long time of activities that is not all just drag racing. Following the races on Sunday July 30th, racers and crews will be invited to a "Burgs and Beer party at the band stand area. There will be golf tournaments, mountain climbing, go carts and much more before the serious stuff gets underway Thursday August 3rd. with the Busters Big Dog Shootout.

*With inclement weather on Saturday we where unable to get the free entree race completed, so it will take place at the Sept long weekend tour event. It will happen on Friday afternoon and will replace the normal gamblers race that happens that weekend.

* Please Note thee is no points race on July 16-17, there is just a wild street car event  Saturday at the track, Bragging Rights Night.

SUPER TOUR LIVES UP ITS NAME AS THE RACING WAS SUPER:
Heading into the second stop on the Canadian Bracket Super Tour, WEATHER was what was on everyone's mind as the weather man kept changes his every five minutes. Thursday was a beautiful day and close to 30 cars would arrive early to take in some relax time with friends. Friday morning the sun was up and shinning but was definitely different looking because of the smoke from the fires that where still burning out of control.
Friday would see the bulk of the cars roll in under what many would call perfect race track weather and conditions. So around 3 pm time trials got underway for Super Pro and Semi Pro, no jrs this race day give mom and dad a break. Semi Pro drivers where dialing for 1200 in the finals and Larry Lepin was the victor over Michael Harling from Sudbury. Super Pro would be $4000. to win in the Friday Frenzy and here seasoned veteran took the win light when Dave Rennie red light in the pit lane. For Tupper it was his first visit to the Luskville Dragway winners circle in a few years. Day Two is Saturday and we will be fighting the weather man. Racing got going very early as we tried hard to beat the weather and we did until 3:30 when the heavens opened up and down it came, and down it did come. However we did manage to get the Jr. progam in with Logan Anger started out with a win in what would be a great weekend for him. Semi Pro and Super however would have to wait until Sunday. So now the pressure was on to not only finish Saturdays events in Super Pro and Semi but to also get Sundays Program in. So once again time trials started at 8 am with only one shot for everyone before eliminations, which would start with finishing the left over from Saturday. Semi Pro would see North bay, Ontario's Ashley Muttart take the win over Pat Alarie from Luskville. Super Pro would be where the Ladies would shine as Tilsonburg, Ontario's Laura Sheppard would beat up Ashley Ogilvie for the $5000. Prize money.
So then it was on to the regular program for Sunday and here once again Logan Anger would shine with a second big win in the same weekend. Semi Pro would boil down to a couple of great Vegas as Eric Leduc would take on Mike Reynolds who was doing double duty in Super Pro and Semi Pro. Mike would take the win light and the $2000. that went with it. Super Pro would once again have the ladies shinning as Becky Ray would take on and defeat Mike Chenier in the finals of super pro and take home the $5000. So all in all despite the weather and a few gremlins in the Christmas tree which had Derek pulling his hair out for an hour. But that being said it all came together and with out a question it was the best race of the summer so far, so sit back hold on as we get ready for the Dave Rennie Auto Care twin tens.
